77864 WORLD WAR II WAR BOND PROMOTIONAL JUST FOR REMEMBRANCE

This somber WWII War Bond promotional film, JUST FOR REMEMBRANCE, shows the activities of the Quartermaster Effects Depot in Kansas City, Missouri. Here, some of the hundreds of thousands of personal effects for the deceased — wrapped in 2000 bundles each month — were processed, to be sent back to grieving families. The importance of this “strange, sad warehouse house filled with echoes” is that here, the items that survive evoke memories of those lost. Whether it be a pair of broken sunglasses, a comb with missing teeth, a favorite pipe, or a rabbit’s foot, these items come home “instead of a man”.

Up to 2500 people worked in the Kansas City Quartermaster Depot during the war. Today it sits empty and abandoned.

This film was produced for the Sixth War Loan.
