7719Z “THE CASE OF COMRADE T” 1956 CIA-PRODUCED COLD WAR COMMUNIST ESPIONAGE FILM (Main title missing)

This Cold War Era film was created by the CIA. It shows an example of a foreign secret agent who is unable to get information about various jobs in the US due to good security. The film opens with a note (:12) the film is dedicated for those working on sensitive material. It is presented by the Department of Defense (:29). A suspicious character walks through the streets interrupted by a small child at play (:41). The character is introduced as Edgar H. Tillman (:55). His various alias are mentioned (:58). Comrade T meets with communist party members in a secret location (1:10). An official reads a report informing the spy he has failed on his mission (1:29). Comrade T was to deliver information on companies producing electronic equipment and aircraft (2:03). Comrade T pleads his case stating the US was better prepared than expected (2:40). Two security guards stand at the gate of an electronics company the spy was to penetrate (2:53). Comrade T is stopped on approach (3:12). He flashes a fake identification card (3:14) and is allowed in. The secret assembly area; the spies target is marked off for authorized personnel only (3:34). A security guard mans the entrance (3:37). The spy stares at a bulletin board stuck with notices about security and safety practices (4:04). He poses as an engineer (4:11) copying designs (4:24). A female clerk organizes classified documents (4:41). Documents are double wrapped (5:19). Another worker pulls a working document (5:29) from a locked file. He is denied access by the clerk in charge (5:54). The spy enters the reproduction department (6:35) as an employee makes copies. Imperfect copies are set into locked cans for burning (7:04). He slips into the restroom in order to hide and stay late (7:31). A guard pauses by the restroom (7:39). Comrade T checks locked filing cabinets (7:55). He searches through unlocked desks (8:13). The light snaps on and the guard catches him (8:33). Comrade and his superiors argue (9:10) as they inform him they received the information they needed from the newspapers. He appears at an aircraft plant under a new alias (10:08). He notices an attractive woman standing outside the gate (10:16). He attempts to swoon the girl (10:26) to get information about a big new contract. She delivers the information (10:56) after a series of dates. He takes up position at one of the new subcontractors that was to bid on the contract (11:20). The invitation to bid; including all vital information he needed, is delivered to the spy’s desk (11:33). For his work at a chemical plant, the spy was set up with an apartment in the same building as the key engineer (12:00). He offers the man a ride to work daily (12:06) in order to pull information from him. The pair slip into a sleek black 1950 Chrysler Crown (12:22). He was unable to pull information (12:41). On return trips, the engineer brought work home with him (13:01). As they stop at a Safeway grocery store (13:12) the envelope is left on the bucket seat (13:24). The spy snaps test shots (13:40). The engineer notices the envelope is left open (14:50). The spy comically notes no valuable information was received (15:13) and his boss erupts. He shows the spy an advertisement for new planes like the Corsair II (15:24). He encourages the spy to interrogate the American people (15:47). He takes position at another plant and meets with the boss (16:30). The secretary types vital information from several departments (16:55). She applies stamps on the documents (17:06) and sets sensitive information into the container to be burned (17:17). She tosses her short hand notes into the wastebasket (17:48) and leaves the spy alone. Comrade T complains the American worker was becoming too conscious (18:27) and careful in their work. The spy is forced to undergo further training (18:56). The camera pans over to a picture on the wall (19:28) which leads to a man listening to the conversation through a speaker (19:47). This turns out to be the CIA tailing the spy (20:31) since his first assignment. The CIA operatives note the Soviet spy has led them to other operatives (20:48). Comrade T is given one final chance (21:38) for assignment. He pays dues to the party (21:57). The film notes the spy is simply bait for a larger game (22:19).
