75492 16mm HOME MOVIES TRIP TO CUBA, JAMAICA & PANAMA ON LINER RMS MAURETANIA

This film is a compilation of home movies shot in the 1950s during a family’s trip to Panama and the Canal Zone, Kingston in Jamaica, and Havana in Cuba prior to the Cuban Revolution. Some of the sights included in the film are the Havana Zoo, the “El Rancho” Gardens in Panama City, and Castleton Gardens in Jamaica. The journey was made aboard the ocean liner RMS Mauretania towards the end of its service life, before it was scrapped in 1965. RMS Mauretania was launched on 28 July 1938 at the Cammell Laird yard in Birkenhead, England and was completed in May 1939. RMS Mauretania had a similar exterior to the famous RMS Queen Elizabeth ocean liner.

Motion picture films don’t last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we’ve worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies — including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you’d like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we’d love to hear from you.
