This recap of the year 1968 shows the end of the Surveyor Program with Surveyor 7’s landing on the surface of the moon, testing at the Jet Propulsion Lab of various Mars landing systems, Antarctic research, the Pioneer spacecraft, the Orbiting Geophysical Observatory, launching of sounding rockets, the Radio Astronomy Explorer, the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory, testing of lifting bodies including the HL-10, tests of the X-15 and its retirement, the XB-70 program, VTOL aircraft, jet noise reduction, and at the 9:53 mark, test firings of the new nuclear powered rocket reactor. Project Apollo is of course the major focus of the film, with four flights being made in 1968 including Apollo 5, 6, 7 and 8.
