Made in the 1920s, this silent educational film attempts to show how water is supplied to cities, and the mechanisms put in place to keep it safe. Various sanitary practices are shown including aeration and chemical treatment. Various ways in which water helps a body are shown, and its importance to productivity shown as well. Harvard football players are shown drinking water at practice, and employees are seen to be more efficient when supplied with water. The dangers of drinking from a “common glass” and the spread of germs and contagious disease in this way are described. The dangers of soda fountains that have poor sanitary conditions are also seen — seems slightly hysterical but there it is! The solution, aside from using soap and water to wash glasses, is to use single-use cups like a Dixie type cup that can be disposed of after use.
