This silent film footage shows the start of the internment of Japanese Americans in Los Angeles in late 1941. At :16, a soldier walks in front of Hashimoto’s Boat Supply & Hardware Company, a business on Terminal Island in Long Beach that was seized by the U.S. Government. A complete blockade of Terminal Island and its Japanese-American owned fishing boats was initiated as well, with 500 arrests made on December 8th. These people were moved to an immigration station at Terminal Island to await further processing. Some of the imagery here also shows people being searched and loaded onto streetcars and buses under heavy guard.
