71342 1936 HOME MOVIE – TRIP TO GERMANY including POTSDAM and FRANKFURT

Shot in 1936 by an American tourist who attended the Olympic Games in Berlin, this 16mm silent home movie — one of five such reels in our archive — provides a window into Germany during the pre-WWII era. Although in somewhat poor condition (and in need of restoration), it’s possible to spot many interesting things in this film. A busy street scene (00:00:16:00) with swastika banners everywhere, for instance. At (00:00:28:11), the Olympic Rings are visible on a street corner. Scenes in Potsdam begin at the (00:01:57:15) mark, and Munich and the Ehrentemple at (00:03:48:05). Check out the Lowenbrau beer garden at (00:04:51:12) and (00:05:16:16). The final part of the film appears to be in Bavaria or the Alps. If you have more information about sights seen in the film please leave them in the comments section.
