This b&w film “Youth of the World: IV Winter Olympics” shows the Winter Olympics in 1936, which were held in the villages of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bayern, Germany. The film contains wonderful footage of the different Olympic disciplines including cross-country skiing, slalom, bobsled, and ski jumping. Many of the images are presented in a style reminiscent of filmmaker / director Leni Riefenstahl, although she was apparently not involved in the production of this short.

The athletes eat and drink (05:38) and then begin the shooting part of the Olympic discipline (05:42). They continue cross-country skiing (05:52). An Italian team member crosses the finish line first and wins the race (08:05) followed by Finland in 2nd place (08:20). “50 KM” text overlay and the winter Olympic discipline of cross-country skiing begins (08:33). Athletes are served food and drinks (08:39), before continuing cross-country skiing (08:49). Sweden takes first place, and the athlete is celebrated (09:49). The two-man Bobsleigh contest begins (09:58). America wins the two-man bobsleigh contest (10:45). The American flag and the two contestants are celebrated (10:46). One of the bobsleighs crashes and the two men fall into the snow (10:57). A lift carries contestants to the top of a four-man bobsleigh track (11:06). The race begins (11:14). One of Switzerland’s team wins the race, and the contestants are celebrated (12:28). Scenes from the Men’s singles figure skating contest (12:51) and the women’s single (13:37). “4 x 10KM Staffel” text overlay (13:58). Another cross-country skiing contest begins (14:01).
