“Industry On Parade was a television series created by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) from 1950-1960. The series consisted of weekly episodes that highlighted American manufacturing and business. Hundreds of companies and products were documented during the [program’s] decade-long run.”

This episode begins with a look at the new offshore radar station (Texas Towers) at George’s Shoal along the eastern seaboard of the U.S. (00:45). A whaleboat is lifted to the platform of the station. Men get a tour of the station. An employee operates the station’s diesel generators (01:53). Men attend a church service on the station. Radar operators monitor action in the area. Two jets fly over the station. There is a shot of a boat being lifted to the station’s platform with a Navy destroyer in the background (03:10). A wounded sailor is loaded onto a Piasecki H-21 helicopter (03:39) to be evacuated.

The second segment, “Alabama,” shows the evaporating room of a food processing plant (04:55). The large evaporators used in these plants are manufactured at the Goslin-Birmingham Manufacturing Company (05:10). A man stamps a steel sheet; men insert rods into an evaporator. The two halves of an evaporator are welded together (06:39) and then shipped out on rail.

In the next segment, at Pennsylvania’s Pioneer Suspender Company, a man selects hides to make various leather products (07:20). A woman lines a leather strap with calf hide. Men stain the edges of belts by hand (08:45). A woman attaches a buckle to a belt.

The final segment, “New Jersey,” takes viewers to the Newark firm Pademaker Bookbinding Company, where old books are restored (10:35). A man gives a book a new spine (11:20). A new cover is made by hand (12:15).
