This color educational film “Portrait of the Orient” is a travelogue film about Taiwan that was produced and narrated by Curtis Nagel and William Moore. Copyright is circa 1969.

Japan Air Lines jumbo jet lands at Taipei International Airport, people exit the jet and enter the airport (1:53). In the city of Taipei, a park in the city outside of the Presidential Palace (3:05). Busy streets of Taipei (3:43). New high rise building (4:19). Downtown in Taipei, the hustle and bustle of city life (4:43). Mandarin Hotel (4:48). Ambassador Hotel (5:11). Grand Hotel, a great luxury hotel of the Orient (5:22). The models in the garden of the Grand Hotel (6:00). Different models show off different styles of clothes (7:04). Marble staircase at the Grand Hotel (7:35). Tour bus in Taipei (7:42).

Bangka Lungshan Temple is a Chinese folk religious temple in Wanhua District, Taipei, Taiwan. The temple was built in Taipei in 1738 by settlers from Fujian during Qing rule in honor of Guanyin. It served as a place of worship and a gathering place for the Chinese settlers (7:55). Elaborate temple rooftops (8:34). People worship at the Shrine of Fertility (9:39). A home for the war orphans; they have a band (10:04). Children play on a playground, they are well dressed and clean (10:57). Older orphan girls have a band as well and play traditional Chinese instruments (11:30). A home for sick children, some have polio (12:18). Science Hall in Taipei (13:21). Tainan, the second largest city in Taiwan (38:11). People walk the streets of Tainan; a marketplace (38:35). Xinjiang Lake; Nine Point Bridge (39:40). Twin Pagoda (40:19). Taipei at night; bright neon lights and electric signage (40:58). Dining room in the President’s Hotel (41:30).

A band plays old, traditional instruments (41:41). Women dance in Chinese garb and perform the Flower Dance (42:42). A man and woman perform The Monkey Dance (43:46). Women wave ribbons and dance (44:44). People leave the airport terminal and return to the Japan Air Lines jet to leave Taiwan (46:12). End credits (46:58).
