65334 AMERICAN NATURAL GAS ASSOCIATION 1960s PROMOTIONAL FILM “FLAMERIDE” FLAME SHAPES

Flameride is a short film, presented by the American Gas Association, that promotes the natural gas industry by showing the different shapes and colors of flames used in American industries. The film opens with shots of various flames being fueled by natural gas. The differing shapes are collectively referred to as flame geometry. The film predominantly shows close-up footage of flames of varying shapes and colors, but it also features a number of other shots, including footage of a rotary drum drive (01:33), an infrared generator (06:04), and a radiant heat generator (06:45). Too much heat on a glass tv tube causes the tube to lose its shape (02:00). Glass parts for miniature lamps are manufactured using flames (02:23). Flames heat the ends of glass tubes (02:55). A man uses a large torch with an oxy-gas mixture to heat up a slab of steel (03:32). Cosmetic bottles are manufactured using gas to heat the molds for the bottles (04:07). The film shows various types of gas burners and the different flames that come from those burners, then shows a laboratory for researching gas flames and ceramic glass metals (05:25). Specific types of flames shown in the film include a new square flame (07:15), a flat flame (08:11), and a natural gas flame that looks similar to a metal pipe. A hot ingot is pressed in a forge. The film concludes with footage of a large facility that makes gas-burning equipment (10:18) and more shots of various flames.
