Industry on Parade was a short television program that aired in the U.S. from 1950-1960. It was produced by the National Association of Manufacturers. The series demonstrated complicated industrial processes that transformed raw materials into finished products. Industry On Parade Florida is one of those black and white, public service, industrial films, probably produced in the mid 1950’s. Narrators used were Bob Wilson, Peter Roberts, and Radcliffe Hall. It was produced by Arthur Lodge Production, Inc. In 1953, Arthur Lodge formed his company and began producing his educational films. He wrote and produced more than 500 episodes for Industry On Parade. This particular film was made available to the schools of Utah by the Utah Manufacturers Association.

The first segment focuses on Florida (0:43-0:45) and its tourism industry, before looking at the state’s power infrastructure. Hotels in Florida (0:46-1:06). Motels in Florida (1:07-1:14). Florida power plant – Cutler Plant, of the Florida Power and Light Company, built around 1954 (1:25-1:34). Above ground oil storage tanks (1:55-2:00). Pumping oil to electric plant (2:02-2:06). Generating station (2:07-2:16). Generator (2:39-2:48). Men checking blueprints (2:49-3:00). Miami at night (3:30-3:49). At 3:22 an early form of close circuit television is shown. Ohio (4:30-4:32) is profiled next with a look at healthcare and in particular, thermometers. A nurse taking a patients vital signs (4:34-4:45). Nurse holding a mercury thermometer (4:46-4:50). Medical Research Institute Incorporated of Cincinnati, Ohio (4:51-5:01). Thermometer being made and tested (5:04-5:34). Thermistor – a type of resistor whose resistance is dependent on temperature (5:35-6:04). Testing the thermistor (6:16-6:55). Board with stop watch attached (7:00-7:17). Cincinnati’s Bethesda Hospital 1950’s (7:18-7:21). Tennessee (7:42-7:45). An automatic oxy-acetylene torch cutting cookies out of steel (7:46-8:03) is shown as part of a showcase of the machine industry. Grinding and milling metal (8:04-8:10). Brass cutting tool (8:11-8:21). W.J. Savage Co., Knoxville, TN (8:26-8:35). The nibbling machine (8:36-9:19). Nibbling machine at work (9:24-10:17). At 10:30 a special segment shows handicapped workers / workers with disabilities performing various jobs in industry. Great Lakes (11:02-11:05) ore carriers are shown next and the Soo Locks. Lake freighters, or lakers (11:09-11:22). Freighter docked in Cleveland, OH. (11:23-11:31). Ore freighter going through Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Soo Locks using ice cutters to break up the ice (11:37-12:52). Trains loaded with ore being unloaded (13:00-13:18).
