This is a 1940’s era, black and white movie. It is presented by – Andre de la Varre, called The Screen Traveler. It is about the Cities of North Africa – Tunis – Algiers and Rabat. Old cars come down the street, 1:22. Avenue de France leads to the Port de France, 1:45. Graceful minarets rise above the mosques, 1:55. Citizens walk through back alleys under roman arches, 2:07. View from a tower overlooking Tunis, 2:20. A baker sells his unwrapped bread. The sweet meat salesman carries his wares and sets up shop wherever it is busy, 2:47. Tiny kitchen is shown, 3:00. An indoor market is shown with various merchants, 3:12. Street of the shoemakers, 3:30. Women wear white robes and black masks, 3:51. Description of Algiers opens with a view of a port in Algiers, 4:17. Fine buildings face the harbor, 4:35. Rue de Constantine, 4:41. Arcaded sidewalks, 4:49. The mosque, Djamaa el Djedid is shown, 4:56. Crowded buses come into town, 6:15. Muslim women wear their veils and run when they see the camera pointed at them, 5:27. Man gets a haircut and a shave, 5:36. The barber is also a dentist; extracted teeth are shown, 5:40. The casbah quarter in Algiers, 5:54. Transport is accomplished by donkey through the narrow streets, 6:14. Description of Old Rabat opens with a picture of Hassan Tower, 7:12. Boe Regreg river is shown beyond the walled city, 7:18. The walls of Old Rabat, 7:31. Doctors hold consultations in the street, 7:55. Butcher shops and other food vendors are shown, 8:13. Grocery store in the street is shown, 8:26. Spice merchant weighs his wares, 8:36. Traditional Moroccan clothing called the burnous is shown. Artisans work in the streets, 9:37. Boys work as apprentices in different trades, 9:55. Moroccan hairstyles for young boys are shown, 10:06. The palace of the sultan, guarded by ancient descendants of the African city, 10:52.
