January 10, 1926, Freeville, NY, young people outside in the cold. Youngsters vote and put ballots in a box. People walk to a house, its cold and snow. The person who’s elected takes the oath of office. Two boys start fighting outside in the cold. The fight is broken up by a guy. Youngsters play judge and jury. One of the fighters is taken to jail. People work at a bakery. Every citizen has a job. Youths work on a farm. A cow wanders. A girl milks the cow. Citizens get paid. American Flag flies (:07-2:24). Title: 1930 – Long and Short of it. Title: 1931 – Personalities. 1931, Lincoln Ellsworth, the polar explorer, President Hoover gives him medal. 1920, Sir Harry Lauder, famed Scottish singer with his wife. he puts a pipe in his mouth. 1922, Konstantin Stanislavski, critic of the theatre, stands. He takes his hat off and bows. Title: 1926 – Earthquake in Sumatra. July 3, 1926, debris after earthquake. Homes are flattened, piles of rubble. People stand and look. Building is a loss (4:17-6:34). Spring Valley Water, boat on the river. A dam lets water out. Title – 1928 – Aviation. April 1, 1928. Round the world flyers stop off in Japan and receive an honor from the people. Japanese women bow. The men give speeches. Title: 1926 – Fashions of the Day. Miss America 1926 pageant. The women in their bathing suits. Joan Blondell, future actress, is in the running. Woman pose. Norma Smallwood is crowned Miss America of 1926 (6:35-9:57). Title: 1925 and 1929 – Sports. September 1925, Manchester, NH, a boy drops right into the water. A bunch of people go diving right into the water off a cliff. Horse racing in Florida in 1929. Jack Dempsey is there. Horses race at Hialeah, FL. The race has begun, the horses round the far turn and drive towards the finish line. Clean Play wins the race (9:58-11:48)
