Dating to 1948, this silent film “The Seals of the Sahara” is an early effort by Jacques Cousteau. It was shot in North Africa. Unlike many of the films Cousteau made in this era, this one does not rely primarily on underwater cameras or SCUBA gear. The plot of the film is fairly simple — a Monk seal is taken from a sandy beach in Morocco, and then transported by ship to France where it becomes part of the exhibit at the Paris Zoo.
