This silent home movie shows early Kodachrome color views of the 1938 and 1939 Rose Parades in Pasadena, California. These were the 49th and 50th Parades, respectively. The 1939 Parade theme was “Playland Fantasies” and features marvelous floats and at 3:43 a 20th Century Fox wagon. At 3:47 the 1939 Parade begins. This one includes a sensational Wizard of Oz float at 6:11, sponsored by Culver City where MGM Studios was located. Some of the other floats include North Hollywood at 8:20, and Ventura’s entry at 8:30. At 10:09 a huge “Last Supper” made of flowers moves down the street.
