61754 1940s CHILDREN’S DENTIST EDUCATIONAL FILM DENTISTRY & ORAL HYGIENE

This black and white film by Young American Films is a 1950s educational public service announcement on oral hygiene. It is an adaption of the British Information Service Film “Your Children’s Teeth”. The film begins with a girl smiling to show off her strong teeth (0:22-0:27). A dentist shows a decaying set of teeth, and then works on the mouth of a young woman to show a beautiful smile (0:27-0:47). Fresh vegetables are put in a basket, and vintage glass milk bottles are picked up by the door. (0:48-1:03). Butter, eggs, and cheese are shown on plates (1:04-1:10). A baby chews on a vintage toy, a toddler eats from a vintage high chair, and a little girl eats at a table (1:11-1:32). A vintage educational animation explains the growth of teeth (1:33-3:22). A dentist pulls back the gums of a young woman with a beautiful smile (3:23-3:34). A young woman with rotten teeth is shown attempting to eat, and an animation shows the poison moving through her body (3:23-4:16). A vintage animation shows the process of tooth decay (4:25-5:44). A young girl eats a jam sandwich, and then bites into an apple. Children and their mother eat apples (5:45-6:26). Children brush their teeth over vintage sinks (6:32-6:45). A girl demonstrates the proper way to brush teeth. This includes brushing with chalk and soda bicarbonate, which is the active ingredient in baking soda (6:46-8:27). A young girl is shown in her night robe, sitting on her bed, reading a book, and eating a raw tomato. She brushes her teeth and goes to bed. (8:28-8:48). A dentist is shown performing a cavity inspection in a young girl’s mouth (8:49-9:34).
