The Gaines Dog Research Center presents Training You To Train Your Dog, a short training film based off of the book by Blanche Saunders. The film shows viewers how to effectively house train, punish, feed, and groom a dog. The film opens with a black standard poodle barking at the camera. The film then shows livestock, including horses, cattle, and pigs. A man rides a horse-drawn plow. A Doberman pincher walks with a U.S. MP (01:58) at a military base. Women work at the office of the American Kennel Club (02:39). The film shows several human society buildings. Men examine dogs at a show dog competition. Children walk dogs in a parade or fundraising walkathon. Young women work on training their dogs in a courtyard. Puppies nurse on their mother. Young puppies play together. A boy corrals a young dog in a crib-like kennel. A young boy takes a collie puppy on a short walk (07:03). A boxer puppy is confined to small space lined with newspapers (08:55). The boxer sits in an arm chair. A woman smacks the nose of the boxer after the dog tries to eat food off a coffee table. The woman works on training her boxer to heal, stay, and come (13:58). The film shows a handful of other dogs, including a dachshund, a springer spaniel, and a cocker spaniel. A boy feeds two black standard poodles (16:45). Another boy uses a thermometer to take the temperature of his dog. A woman and her dog get into a station wagon to go for a drive. A woman demonstrates how to properly bathe a dog (19:00), clean its teeth, and cut its nails. The film concludes with shots of people petting their dogs.

Blanche Saunders was one of the first Americans to popularize dog training. Blanche Saunders worked for the American Kennel Club and produced many of their dog obedience training methods. Blanche Saunders also was a dog trainer for the ASPCA.

In 1954, Blanche Saunders wrote her first book, The Complete Book of Dog Obedience.
