61174 1962 PAN AM IRELAND TRAVELOGUE BOEING 377 JET CLIPPER

This 1962 color film about Ireland is one of a series of Pan Am New Horizons travelogues. It is narrated by Ed Stokes and produced by Movietonews, Inc. It begins with a colorful ‘focus leader’ for the film operator (:06-:50). The film opens with snippets of Ireland (:51). The New Horizons credits are shown (1:23). A Pan American Boeing 377 Jet Clipper flight arrives and the crew and passengers disembark (1:48-2:00). A couple leaves the passport office in a Austin-Healey Sprite (2:02-2:22) to begin touring Dublin. Busy streets are shown full of pedestrians, cars, trucks, and double-decker buses (2:23-2:40). The couple drives through the countryside to an oyster festival (2:42-2:57). They follow a marching band of men in kilts (2:59) followed by the Lord Mayor of Galway (3:08-3:35). A jig is performed for the crowd (3:36-4:10). The couple continue on their adventure down a dirt road (4:11) and past a thatched roof cottage being repaired (4:24-4:36). On the other side, a woman spins wool on a giant spinning wheel (4:38-4:55). Finished tweed fabrics are shown and sold made up into such items as sweaters (4:56-5:24). Other duty-free items include perfumes, gold and silver jewelry, watches, and cameras (5:25-5:32). At a fashion house, a pretty woman models a matching Irish wool ensemble of dress and coat, with matching pillbox hat, long gloves, and heels to buyers who are also fashionably dressed. Other models also showcase a short shift, a sheath dress with jacket and matching pillbox hat, and an evening dress (5:33-5:59). The couple next travels to Blarney Castle to explore the ruins (6:00) and kiss the Blarney Stone (6:15-6:25). Additional ruins of stone structures are shown (6:26-6:49). Artisans create a stained-glass window (6:50-7:40). A glassblower creates a Waterford Crystal piece, and several finished products are shown (7:41-8:13). The couple now watches a steeplechase competition (8:26-9:04), followed by the Irish Sweepstakes (9:05-9:16). The motorcycles speed past in a motocross race (9:17-9:51). The couple relax by a lake, go horseback riding, and golf with ruins in the background (9:52-10:38). They stay at a castle and enjoy Irish coffee (10:39-10:59). They watch a fisherman catch a large salmon (11:00-11:38). A two-wheeled horse-drawn buggy takes them to another castle (11:39-12:00). Various shots of scenery end the film.
