61034 1960 FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW DEHAVILLAND & BRISTOL JET AIRCRAFT

This rare color film produced by The Brown-Firth Research Laboratories in Sheffield presents the September 9, 1960 21st S.B.A.C. Flying Display at Farnborough Airport in England. [This event still serves today as an exhibition for the aerospace and defense industries and a public airshow.] The film opens with some of the inside exhibits (:34) and features the Bristol Siddeley swiveling jets (:56), Firth Brown and Firth-Derihon special and alloy steel parts booths (1:14-1:21), the Firth-Vickers booth (1:22), and various aircraft engines (1:26-1:36). Outside displays include a de Havilland Firestreak missile (1:39), a Seacat missile (1:45), an XG905 VTOL plane (1:54), and military helicopters (2:04-2:13). Highlights of the airshow are shown. It opens with four Avro Vulcans (2:18-3:50), a Prospector Mark 2 crop duster (3:52-4:02), a twin-boom aircraft (4:08-4:29), English Electric Lightning supersonic fighter aircraft (4:30-4:58), a G-APWA (5:04-5:39), Westland helicopters (5:43-6:25), a Handley Page Victor V2, which will be equipped with the Avro Blue Steel missile (6:29-7:05), a Hawker Hunter jet fighter (7:06-8:02), a Vickers Vanguard (8:03-8:27), and the world’s first public demonstration of the Short SC.1 VTOL aircraft (8:28-9:34). The airshow closes with an impressive precision aerial display by the Black Arrows, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team flying Hawker Hunter jet fighters, led by Squadron Leader Peter Latham (9:35-12:31).
