This 1950 silent black and white educational film on Norway has intertitles describing the various segments. It was produced by Official Films, a Dudley Pictures Corporation Production for the This World of Ours television series. {The timestamps represent the beginning of that action.] The film opens with a view of a majestic fjord (:40), followed by the scenery of mountains, lakes, and valleys (:48). A waterfall spills down the side of a mountain next to a house (:58). Bicyclists ride up a hill with snow-capped mountains in the distance (1:10). A lumberyard is by the water (1:16). Women in traditional clothing are shown walking in the street (1:25), while two others rock a baby in a cradle and use a spinning wheel (1:41). A trolley on a track passes by (1:53), as does a steam engine train with many cars (2:04). The screen tells us “Farming is Norway’s largest industry” (2:31). A farmer gathers a crop into a bucket (2:37), another loads hay into a horse-drawn cart (2:55), men use a sickle (3:05) on the hay as a woman then stacks it on the vertical racks to dry (3:23), and a horse pulls an implement to gather hay (3:34). A farmer interacts with his cattle (3:46) and a woman with sheep outside of a log house (4:02). Horses graze in a valley under electric poles (4:15). The screen tells us “Norway’s largest city is Oslo – Population 400,000” (4:26). A trolley moves past a police officer directing traffic (4:32). Buildings shown are the Utenriksdepartementet (Ministry for Foreign Affairs) (4:42), the Norwegian Royal Palace (5:00), and Radhuset (City Hall) (5:13). The screen tells us “Norway has extensive shipyards” (5:41). Various types of construction is shown at the shipyard (5:45). A giant crane moves cargo (6:21) to a Fred Olsen Line ship (6:37). The screen tells us “The country’s second city is Bergen” (7:02). A view of the city is shown (7:10). People populate a square where there are many street vendors (7:20). A man chops fish for sale (7:32). A statue of Edvard Grieg, a famous Norwegian composer and pianist from the 1800s, is shown (8:02). The screen tells us “Trondheim is a lumbering center” (8:19). Men push wood with poles in a canal (8:27), a steam train carries finished lumber (8:45), and a crane moves logs towards a group of men (9:07). The screen tells us “Roras is a copper center” (9:55). The camera pans the city (10:00). Molten copper is processed in a furnace (10:15) and hardened pieces are stacked outside (10:47). The screen tells us “Norway and skiing are synonymous” (11:18). A skier jumps into view (11:22), followed by downhill skiers (11:30), including a wipeout (11:45).
