60124a 1939 LOS ANGELES RAILROAD BOOSTERS CLUB TRIP PACIFIC ELECTRIC TROLLEY CARS CALIFORNIA

This silent film begins with footage shot on November 19, 1939 as the Los Angeles Railroad Boosters Club went on an “Orange Empire Excursion” (the “Eastern District”) aboard blimp 1375. (Note: some timecodes shown here are via G. Hunter who kindly analyzed the film). The platform at the start of the film is at the Pacific Electrical terminal in downtown Los Angeles at Sixth and Main St. At :36, the Macy Street Carhouse and State St. Yard. :42, General Hospital in the b/g. At 1:13, the train passes interurban 1210 and at 1:30 passes through a grade crossing, one of many. 1:46, crossing the Santa Ana River at La Quinta Bridge. At 3:21, exterior shot of interurban car 1200. 3:45, crossing ATSF railroad lines east of San Bernardino. At 3:51, the blimp car marked 1375 “Express” is shown parked, with the boosters having a picnic. 4:53, Mountain View Street and downtown San Bernardino. At 5:31, Pacific Electric Birney Car 103 at the ATSF station in Highland. 5:43 Highland Santa Fe depot 6:01 Along the Pasadena Short Line. Part two of the film shows a trip through the Northern District. 6:43 Macy Black Shop with South Pasadena Line visible. Car 12:02 at 6:59. 7:27 Lord Street Bridge. 7:41 El Sereno and the “4 Track System” facing west. 7:45 Crossing Eastern Avenue on the way to Alhambra and Sierra Vista on the 4 track system. 8:17 Oneota Park passenger station and interlocking tower. 9:09 Looking North up Fair Oaks Avenue towards Pasadena / Altadena. 9:24 Signal bridge just east of Oneota Park Junction in South Pasadena. 9:58 Southern Pacific diesel switch engine moving a caboose. 10:30 The so-called Hollywood type cars on the move. 11:28 repair shops.
