This black & white film, made by Ziv for broadcast on TV in the 1950s, is a compilation of newsreel footage about varying topics. No copyright but this is circa the early 1950s.

Opening titles: Yesterday’s Newsreel. Title: 1928-1929 – Holiday for Hoover

(:10-:37). In November 1928, President-elect Hoover embarked on a ten-nation goodwill tour of Latin America. He delivered twenty-five speeches, stressing his plans to reduce American political and military interference in Latin American affairs. In sum, he pledged that the United States would act as a “good neighbor.” November 27, 1928. Herbert Hoover visits Nicaragua. Sees a human Statue of Liberty. Giant welcome signs. Back in the USA, President Calvin Coolidge spends his last days in office. A ship, probably USS Maryland, with Hoover and his retinue heading towards Panama and then the South Pacific. A man is dressed as Neptune, king of the sea. Hoover’s son suffers through traditional ceremonies in honor of Neptune. He is laid on a table, sprayed with water, dunked into water by tribesmen. December 1928, Hoover is in Ecuador. A parade . Peru is next, Hoover takes a car to Lima. Hoover tips his hat to the locals. Chile, Hoover enjoys a welcome. A parade with horses, wagons and people. Andes with snow capped peaks. Hoover heads to Buenos Aires, Argentina. Hoover heads to Uruguay, at sea passes the Sugarloaf Mountains and then on to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. People cheer him and chase his car. American flags are waved. A visit to the famed jockey club. Aboard the battleship USS Utah, Hoover heads for home. Sailors wave and salute. March 4, 1929, Hoover becomes the 30th President of the U.S. (:38-4:57). Title: 1930 – Golf in a Small Way. Miniature golf course. Couples putt and play. Aerial shot of the course. Women putt and play. Title: 1918 – Debutantes at Work! A car pulls up and drops off four women. The four will work in Paris as car mechanics. They get grease and oil on themselves and really work on the car. The four are proud. Title: 1931 – Personalities. Chico Marx hangs out with two women on a beach. Anne Morgan, daughter of J.P. Morgan. Oliver Wendell Holmes stands with former President Taft

(4:58-7:43). Title: 1916 – Transport Sinks off Jersey Coast. Rough seas for a grounded transport ship SS Sumner that has run aground off Barnegat Bay. The ship breaks in half and is sinking. Title: 1924 – Pogo Sticks Become Craze. Young people in NYC jump on a pogo stick. People pogo up and down the stairs. They pogo down the street. Title: 1926 – Aviation. 300 lbs of airplane that flies. This is the Ford Flivver, a single-seat aircraft designed by Otto Koppen and introduced by Henry Ford as the “Model T of the Air”. After a fatal crash of a prototype into the ocean off Melbourne, Florida, production plans were halted.In the film, the plane hits the air at 100mph and flies. The plane lands safely. Title: 1928 – Fashions of the Day. Women pose in the latest beach fashions. Women reveal the new bathing suits. Women walk across a wall. Tight fitting suits

(7:44-10:41). Title: 1926 – Sports. May 2, 1926, NY Marathon. People run through NYC streets. Albin Stenroos is the winner, he holds a trophy. August 20, 1926, Bryn Mawr, PA, Archery title. People line up and fire. Women archers as well. A woman fires. A man removes some of the arrows (10:42-12:13). No end credits
