Narrated by Bill Slater, this short black & white educational film is about sporting and outdoor activities on the majestic Hudson River in New York State. Copyright 1950.

Opening titles: Paramount Pictures presents Grantland Rice Sportlight – Down Stream Highway (:07-29). Map shows Lake Ontario, New York State, and parts of New England. Hudson River. Highest point in NY state is Mount Marcy, two men stand on it. The men walk as the scenery is behind them. Water falls in the forest, Spearfish Falls. Stream in the Adirondack Mountains. Troy, NY (:30-1:57). Albany, NY – the start of the race – boats race down the Hudson to Manhattan. Little speedboats race towards the end down the river against the current and some big waves. Stretch of water near Poughkeepsie, NY. College letters are on giant rocks off the side of the Hudson. Oarsmen row past the letters and row in the open water (1:58-3:45). Boats and cargo vessels on the Hudson. Below Newburgh, NY is Storm King Mountain, a mountain on the west bank of the Hudson River just south of Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York. Together with Breakneck Ridge on the opposite bank of the river it forms a Wind Gate, the picturesque northern narrows of the Hudson Highlands. Sugarloaf Mountain. Boats pass buoys. A train on the side of the Hudson. Near West Point, NY. Passing some of the buildings from West Point. Bear Mountain Suspension Bridge (3:46-5:10). Boat goes under the bridge. Peekskill is a city in Westchester County, New York. Peekskill is situated on a bay along the east side of the Hudson River. Sail boats on the Hudson, a group of ‘Lightnings.’ People in their sailboats. Englewood Yacht Basin in New Jersey. Boats on the Hudson. Canoeists race (5:11-6:35). Two people paddle a canoe as their baby sits. George Washington Bridge in New York City. West Side Highway. Harwood Trophy Race around Manhattan Island. Boats hit waves. Guy Lombardo piloting Miss Tempo. Boats hit waves. Lower Manhattan as seen from the Jersey Piers (6:36-8:07). Statue of Liberty. HMS Queen Elizabeth, queen of the super ocean liners. Manhattan’s skyline (8:08-8:48). End credits (8:49-8:52).
