56984 1966 TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE WALT DISNEY PASADENA CALIFORNIA

Presented by the Tournament of Roses Association, this profile of the 1966 Rose Parade with Grand Marshall Walt Disney begins with footage of LAX International Airport and the city of Pasadena which hosts the event. At :52 you will see Pasadena City Hall and at 1:00 aerial footage of downtown. At 1:12 is the Jet Propulsion Lab or JPL. The Mariner satellite is seen being launched. At 2:01, Pasadena City College is shown, with college girls with hilarious haircuts including the famed “bubble cut”. At 2:23, the Queen of the Tournament of Roses is shown. The 1966 Parade’s theme is “It’s a Small World”. At 2:40 the court is shown being presented. At 3:00 the Parade is seen taking shape. At 3:59, Mr. Walt Disney the Grand Marshall for the Parade, is seen with Mickey Mouse. (It would be one of his last public appearances — sadly he would not live to see 1967.) At 4;12 a Disney themed float from the City of Burbank is seen, followed by the Long Beach Mounted Police displaying the American Flag. At 5:51 Floyd Gwynn, the mayor of Pasadena, is shown. At 9:50 a float from the Helms Bakery of Culver City is shown. At 16:48, the so-called Negro Rose Parade Committee float is shown.

The 1966 Rose Bowl, played on January 1, 1966, was the 52nd Rose Bowl Game. The UCLA Bruins defeated the #1 ranked Michigan State Spartans by a score of 14–12. UCLA defensive back Bob Stiles was named the Rose Bowl Player Of The Game.
