56784 1950s MOBILE HOME PROMOTIONAL FILM ALASKA to CANADA TRAILER TRIP (short version)

AL-CAN TRAILER TREK is a short film, produced by Kennedy Productions in 1957 or 1958, that promotes and popularizes trailer traveling and RV’ing. Sponsored by the Mobile Home Manufacturers Association, this travel and fishing trip featured outdoor and fishing writers for magazines and newspapers, who write about the trek up to Anchorage, Alaska. The main character of the film is Jack Perry, Outdoor Editor for the Gary, Indiana Post Tribune, and the narration is from his point of view. Perry’s caravan departs from Chicago, Illinois, while a second caravan leaves from Los Angeles, California two days later. The Chicago group heads west, crossing the bridge between Superior, Wisconsin and Duluth, Minnesota (01:13) before entering Canada at International Falls, Minnesota (01:16). The LA caravan drives north, crossing the mist-shrouded Golden Gate Bridge (01:30) on their way. From Fort Frances, Ontario, Perry and his fellow writers take a plane to Spawn Inlet and Bear Lake for a day excursion (01:50). They continue west, entering Prince Albert National Park (04:04) where the explore the scenic forests and waters. In Regina, Saskatchewan, they visit the basic training school for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (05:02). Perry and the Chicago group meet up with the L.A. caravan at Dawson Creek (06:33), British Columbia, where the trailer caravan begins their trip along the Alaska highway. The men stop at Muncho Lake to camp and fish (07:50); they fish the scenic Liard River as well (08:19). During their stop at Watson Lake, Yukon Territory, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer and his wife serve the traveling group moose stew (09:03). They continue driving through Yukon Territory (09:24), finally arriving at Whitehorse, where they see a steamboat built for the set of a movie film (09:33). From Whitehorse, the group flies to Alligator Lake for another fishing expedition, courtesy of Pacific Western Airlines (09:52). Finally, the caravan enters Alaska (11:37) and arrives in Anchorage (12:24) to a warm welcome from the Marine band (12:30) and Governor Mike Stepovich (12:47).
