56174 1948 VISIT TO MANHATTAN TIMES SQUARE WASHINGTON D.C.

Dating to 1948, this delightful 16mm silent home movie shows views of Washington D.C., Boston and New York City in color. The film begins in Times Square where “Easter Parade” and “Abbott and Costello vs. Frankenstein” are playing. At :51, you will see a U.S. Air Force F-84 Thunderjet outside the recruiting station. At :54 the Empire State Building is shown. A view from the Observation Deck is seen at 1:01. At 1:23 the cameraman is in a more rural area. At 1:35, a two stack ocean liner — probably RMS Queen Elizabeth — is seen coming into New York Harbor, followed at 1;44 by a shot of the Statue of Liberty. At 2:03 the Queen Elizabeth is seen again on the Hudson at at 2:20 close up views of the Statue of Liberty. Rockefeller Center is seen at 2:48, although underexposed.

At 3:48 the Bunker Hill Monument is seen and at 4:15 the USS Constitution is seen at her berth. At 5:40, a happy young man in a swimsuit cavorts with two ladies in swimwear who appear to be sisters. At 6:00 one of the ladies is carried to a small lake presumably to be thrown in. A baby is shown at 8:50.

At 9:19, a steam engine is shown, pulling a Washington, D.C. bound train. At 9;30 the Washington Monument is shown and then the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. At 9:53 the Capitol Building is shown. At 10:08 an American Airlines propeller plane is seen at National Airport. At 13:18 a Ferris Wheel is shown at an amusement park.
