This black and white travelogue film about Egypt was produced by Castle Films in 1951 as part of its “The World Parade” documentary series. It opens with a plane circling the Giza pyramids, interspersed with Arab camel drivers (:25-1:03). Cairo is shown from the air, followed by trains at the station. The streets are full of camel trains, shown crossing a bridge (1:04-1:32). A traffic officer directs cars, buses, motorbikes, and donkey carts (1:33-1:50). The Shepheard’s Hotel was comparable to the Ritz and people arrive and dine there [it burned down in 1952 in the Cairo fire] (1:51-2:10). Open markets and street bazaar’s offer a variety of items and services, including public letter writing (2:11-2:35). The Egyptian Museum includes King Tutankhamen artifacts (2:36-3:04 and alabaster items, including a donkey and perfume jars (3:05-3:09). Bricklayers create a curved structure out of bricks (3:10-3:24). A busy marketplace is shown (3:30-3:40). A tram streetcar pulls up. The trolley continues past the pyramids (3:42-4:10). A Muslim woman adjusts a prayer wheel on her nose (4:12). A camel caravan of nomads picks through the rocks past the pyramids before settling for the night in a cave (4:25-4:50). At Luxor, men are shown carrying a skeleton mummy from a tomb (4:51-5:05). The walls have hieroglyphics and excavating is done around a giant statue in the Valley of the Kings by the Egyptian government. Some of the structures are shown (5:06-6:10). A jockey is weighed before a horse race at the Al Jazira Sporting Club (6:11-7:00). Cairo has the Mosque of Sultan Hassan (7:01-7:23). Heliopolis is modern, despite being one of the oldest cities of ancient Egypt (7:24-7:35). An elaborately carved hookah is shown at a lounge (7:50-8:00). Framed against a cloudy sky are pyramids, palm trees, and camels (8:01-8:20).
