55234 1930s OAHU HAWAII TRAVELOGUE MOVIE WAIKIKI BEACH SURFING & HULA DANCING

This short travelogue from Library Films, Inc. gives viewers a look at the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The film begins with footage of windjammers sailing on the ocean. This is followed by a shot of a beach with waves rolling in (01:15), coconut palms, and Hawaiian men playing music on steel guitars and ukuleles. Young boys climb trees to cut down coconuts. A man uses a machete to cut apart coconuts (02:14). Another man makes poi (02:37). People ride surf boards on the waves at what appears to be Waikiki Beach (02:48). There are several good shots of Oahu’s coastline (03:25), including sandy beaches and lava rock outcroppings. There is a panorama shot of part of the ocean and onto Oahu (04:12), followed by another panning from Oahu’s mountains back out to the ocean. A man tosses a net over a school of fish just off the beach (05:08). A handful of people haul in a large manta ray (05:38) and show off the animal. A seal scampers off the sand away from a person (06:11). Hala trees give shade near the water’s edge (07:05). The film also shows a Royal Poinciana (Flame Tree), moon-white night-blooming cereus flowers (08:10), and hibiscus flowers. A sunset is bracketed by palm trees (07:57). A woman dances the hula as a man plays a percussion instrument behind her (08:44), concluding the film.
