This roll of raw newsreel footage was shot in the aftermath of the Six Day War; which ran from 5 to 10 June 1967. It was likely shot by Visnews, a London-based international news agency that supplied various networks. The Six Day War was fought between Israel and a coalition of Arab states (primarily Egypt, Syria, and Jordan). Israel and Egypt fought over the rights of Israeli shipping to pass through the Suez Canal. This feature focuses on the cease fire between Israel and Egypt which took place in June on the 8th and 9th as well as on the 11th in Syria. It opens with a front line tank unit stationed in southern Israel opposite the port of Suez (:12). The tank unit holds fire as they await word about a plan for a ceasefire (:34). A centurion tank sits amid the crowd (:35). The Egyptians maintained control over a large portion of the canal’s east bank. Troops read and eat as they await notice (:45). Egyptian tanks sit in the sand (:54). The narrator mentions Israeli forces were driving south on the west bank (1:04). The camera angle zooms in on a captured missile (1:15) as Egypt agrees to a truce. Tank crews pray (1:27) for peace in the morning. A street vendor sells newspapers to pedestrians (1:58). A news reporter (2:19) interviews a civilian over the cease fire (2:20). A female civilian is interviewed in support of the ceasefire (3:01). A 1960 Aero Commander touches down on the runway (3:59). A reporter interviews an IDF general (4:41) over military plans to open major offensive. Aharon Yariv appears on the left shoulder of the interviewee (4:14). Dov Tamari is interviewed (5:49) over the fighting tactics of the Egyptian army. Satellite footage is provided of Syria (7:00). A reporter holds a microphone for Ian Browde (7:22). Browde was a volunteer of the South African Zionist Federation which organized a group of volunteers in May of 1967. Browde defends the choice to live in Israel as an outsider (7:38) and explains his reason for volunteering. Troops listen to radio reports (8:53). Prisoners sit slumped against sandbags (9:05). Troops sit atop an M51 Sherman tank; this was a modified version of the American M4 Sherman tank that served with the Israel Defense Forces from the mid-1950s to early 1980s. (9:20). A soldier holds the peace sign with his fingers as the camera angle swings in close with tangible tension in the air (9:40). A soldier of the IDF expresses disdain over the loss of life and violence (10:02) as the film concludes.
