This silent film shows the 20th Annual Convention of the American Legion in Los Angeles on Sept. 12-21, 1938. The Legion was lead by National Commander Daniel J. Doughtery and hosted by Los Angeles Mayor Frank L. Shaw. Events for visiting Legionaires included a naval review in Long Beach, a special football game, a Hollywood studio tour, and more. At :35 the film pays honor and respect to veterans of WWI, showing footage of the Western Front and trench warfare, as well as a bridge being blown up and machine guns and tanks, gas masks, and more. At 1:27 the grand parade through the streets of Los Angeles is shown. At 2:35 two young boys salute the Legion and at 4:30 various parade floats are seen. At 4:48 the Long Beach American Legion float goes by, shaped like a battleship. At 6:00, New York police and fire members lead the party from the Empire State. At 8:16 a flyover of American planes including B-17 bombers. At 9:20 the Pennsylvania contingent is shown. At 11:30 the night sky above the Los Angeles Coliseum is lit up by fireworks and the State of California float moves by the camera.
