This color home movie is footage shot during a trip to Hawaii in the 1940s. It’s definitely post-WWII but likely was filmed before the outbreak of the Korean War, so sometime in the 1947-1950 era. It contains some interesting images of life in the islands in this era, including shots of Pearl Harbor, Hickam Field, the wonderful beaches of Waikiki, and more.

Opening: House with palm trees (:29). A woman hangs laundry (:42). Pacific Ocean and mountains (:50). Cars and people outside of the Laie Hawaii Temple (1:04). Pool and trees in the courtyard (1:21). The Pacific Ocean near the shore (1:36). Freedom Tower aka Hickam Field / Hickam Air Force Base Water Tower (2:03). A United States serviceman poses on the grass with his three children (2:18). Hickam Air Force Base (2:37). Men and women clown around and dance the hula; children dance (3:02). Panoramic Honolulu, Hawaii shots (3:35) from scenic overview including Diamond Head. A woman poses with two men near the scenic overlook (4:14). Punchbowl Crater, an extinct volcanic tuff cone in Honolulu (4:42). Punchbowl National Cemetery (4:49). Two women pose with red flowers (5:27). Sacred Falls State Park in Oahu; a little girl stands in front of the sign for the park; inside the park (5:47). Sacred Falls Waterfall (6:10). Women tourists take a hula dance lesson (6:17). A man and two women in a Hawaiian pineapple plantation (7:05). Military parade down a city street, possibly July 4th or Veteran’s Day, soldiers and sailors march (7:17). A man carries a giant American flag followed by a jeep with the flag (9:46). Military men stand on a dock and lower the flag (10:03). At 10:22 are what appear to be the remains of a ship, probably the USS Arizona. A memorial ceremony is taking place. A man and two women drink liquor on a patio, they are joined by a second shirtless male (10:35). Cars drive through high water on a street during a rain storm (11:01). A woman rests on a sofa (12:08). A woman lies in bed in her bra and panties, she pulls the blankets up over herself (12:21). A women bent over in her bathing suit, with her rear end playfully towards the camera; family sits on grass in their bathing suits (12:39). People swim and play in the Pacific Ocean (13:08). Women and men sunbathe on the beach (13:48). People sit outdoors and watch a Hawaiian show (14:38), probably at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. A man with a surfboard in the ocean (14:52). People play in the ocean surf at Waikiki Beach (14:57). Ocean water smashes against a wall (15:54). People stand on a cruise ship (16:02). A marching band sees the ship off (17:06). The ship pulls away and the name USS General Daniel I. Sultan is visible (17:22). This ship was also known as the USS Admiral W. S. Benson (AP-120) and began as an unnamed transport, AP-120, that was laid down on 10 December 1942 at Alameda, California by the Bethlehem-Alameda Shipbuilding Corp., under a Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 678). A woman hugs a little girl, people kiss the woman and a serviceman and put leis on them (17:35). The serviceman gives the middle finger to the camera and laughs (18:24). People say their goodbyes (19:00). On a ship (19:25). Women and men walk up a stairway on the ship with piles of leis on them (19:58). People on the ship (20:58) Sailors play music (21:42). People wave at the ship as the ship pulls away (21:57). USNS Gen. D.E. Aultman, a U.S. Navy transport ship goes by (22:09). This ship, also known as USS Portland, was a General G. O. Squier-class transport ship for the U.S. Navy in World War II. Ocean and seaport as seen from the ship (22:32). Mountains on the land behind the ocean (23:00). A United States serviceman and his family (23:17).
