This black and white 1932 film is a James A FitzPatrick Travel Talk produced by FitzPatrick Pictures. It visits four different types of homes around the world. The song “Home, Sweet Home” was adapted from actor John Howard Payne’s lyrics to his 1823 opera Clari. The film opens with his grandfather’s home in East Hampton, New York; said to be the inspiration for the lyrics. The music was written by Sir Henry Bishop, a British composer (:23-1:22). The next homes shown are in Ceylon [modern Sri Lanka]. Ox-drawn carts pass thatched roof homes. Outside stands a mother and a toddler (1:27-2:25). In Clara, Ireland, a woman chases geese with a broom in front of houses made of stone (2:32-3:20). Home in the Hong Kong harbor means living on a sampan, a lightweight boat serving as a floating house (3:26-4:25). Japanese women in kimonos stand in front of a house and once inside, have tea (4:38-6:24). The film returns to the Payne house, where a man brings a cow to a fence and the windmill is shown (6:38-7:42).
