Shot by an unknown tourist, this 16mm silent home movie shows a trip through the Southwest beginning in El Paso. In a part of the film that might be out of sequence, at :43 is what appears to be Tucson, Arizona’s downtown as seen from “A” Mountain. At :47, an “E” on a hillside seems to indicate El Paso again. At 2:04, Tucson is seen again, with a long sweeping vista shot from “A” Mountain. At 2:30, part of the Desert Museum is seen with its impressive cactus gardens. At 2:40, the sign for the Desert Museum is seen. At 3:05, the entrance to the Old Tucson movie studio and attraction is seen, Much of what you are seeing at this point in the film is the set of the movie “Arizona”. It was later lost in a disastrous fire. At 3:30, a view of Tucson’s downtown is seen from a building near the old Court House (seen at 3:50). “A” Mountain can be seen in the distance. At 3:59, the Cleveland Indians baseball team can be seen in spring training at Tucson’s Hi Corbett Field. Another cactus garden is seen, possibly at Saguaro National Monument. At 5:44, the Prescott city limits sign is seen, followed shortly thereafter by the California Inspection Station and state line. At 6:30, the sign for Joshua Tree is seen, and shots of the cactus of that name. At 7:15, the family car is seen getting towed! Apparently they did make it to California, as the film appears to end there.
