The road is patrolled by Nazi soldiers in open and armored trucks at the Grand Palais (1:06-1:14). Tanks with an Iron Cross insignia patrol Paris. The Avenue des Champs-Élysées with the Arc de Triumph is empty (1:17-1:37). Citizens run across a street. A Resistance member hammers a notice advocating revolt to a post. Posters of Nazi officials are defaced and stepped on (1:42-2:30). The revolt begins August 19,1944. The camera is behind citizens with guns firing out an upstairs window. Window ledges are sandbagged as citizens wait with guns. A French flag blows. A large blood stain is on the pavement (2:46-3:58). A car speedily approaches. Its occupants are greeted by men and women wearing French flag resistance armbands. A citizen crouches with a rifle. A crowd battles a German counter-attack. German flags hang damaged. (4:00-4:56). Citizens capture Nazi soldiers, hands uplifted in surrender. Citizens fire out of windows (5:10-5:57). A woman wearing a resistance armband types in an office. Citizens on rooftops fire rifles at German vehicles and tanks. A man throws a grenade onto a German truck with soldiers in its back. It explodes. Burning soldiers run (6:10-6:58). French soldiers fire out window portals at tanks. A man waves a white flag, checking on a body. Wounded are led and carried on stretchers. A nurse waves a white flag. Flower street memorials have mourners. Barbers shave men at a BBQ (8:13-8:53). Trees are chopped down, pavement dug up, and stones and sandbags stacked across the street to create barriers. Gasoline loaded trucks are placed in buildings. Vehicles are camouflaged (8:55-11:15). Nazi sympathizers, both men and women, are taken by police truck (11:18-12:08). Dead bodies lie along a barrier wall (12:09-12:36). Rescue workers attend to the wounded (12:47-13:03). Citizens are armed. Nazi trucks pass through, firing. People carry a white flag to attend wounded. Citizens at Notre Dame destroy a tank. German cars are looted. Resistance members gather on a captured tank. Nazi soldiers are led away (13:18-14:38). Citizens with guns behind sandbags wait. A Nazi tank moves down the street; citizens fire. More wounded citizens and captured Nazis are shown. A German soldier is shot in the street (14:58-16:33). August 25, 1944, General Leclerc and his tanks arrive, followed by the U.S. 4th Infantry Division. People stand along the streets cheering as they arrive. Nazi propaganda is removed. French and American flags fly. Allied soldiers on foot and in tanks look for Nazis and fire (16:46-22:25). A large number of German soldiers surrender, some from hiding, and are marched through the street (22:26-24:45). President Charles de Gaulle passionately speaks to a group (24:49-26:08). A large crowd celebrates outside the Place de l’Htel de Ville. Some women join soldiers on the tanks; some kiss soldiers (26:09-27:33). The Arc de Triumph is shown with its crowd (both up-close and from overhead) celebrating the German surrender on August 25, 1944. General Leclerc and President Charles de Gaulle are part of the parade (27:34-31:47).
