52534 1940s LB LITTLEFORD ROAD CONSTRUCTION ROAD BROOM / TRACTION BROOM

LB Littleford, the sign of modern engineered black-top road maintenance and construction equipment presents The Littleford Road Brooms, a silent film promoting several Littleford models. It was likely made around 1946. The film begins with graphics depicting the Model 106 Traction Driven Broom (00:36), the Model 108 Engine Driven Broom (00:45), the Model 106 With Sprinkler Attachment Model 111 (00:48), and the Model 108 With Two-Way Blower Attachment Model 112 (00:56). Footage shows the Model 108 Engine Driven Broom on a seal coat job (01:12) and also shows the hydraulic lift and sweeping pressure adjustment in action (01:42). Then a “distributor applies bituminous material on a newly swept road after which stone is then applied” (02:10). The film then shows graphics detailing the Littleford Road Brooms’ features, including: mono-frame construction for strength and maneuverability; better visibility, both front and rear; hydraulic raising and lowering device; two-way brush—sweeps to right or left; sweeping direction can be changed in less than 30 seconds’ time; ends of brush can be adjusted individually; brush can be changed in 1/3 the time of ordinary units; and a 34” diameter brush for longer brush life. The 106 Traction Broom features a dustproof transmission and trails at high speeds without drive chain or brush in motion. The blower attachment is a two-way type, and the sprinkler attachment can be added to both model brooms.
