52504 1940s LITTLEFORD BROTHERS M-3 BITUMINOUS DISTRIBUTOR SALES FILM ASPHALT ROAD CONSTRUCTION

This color promotional film is about the “Spray Master” Bituminous Distributor, a truck equipped with a tank body and a system for pumping hot tar asphalt or bituminous material onto a roadway. This is from Littleford Bros., Inc. and is circa the 1940s. Littleford was founded in 1882. At least during the 1930s, it was based in Cincinnati, Ohio. By 1931, it was producing a line of road maintenance equipment; the line was eventually discontinued, and the last commercially published serial number data ends in 1983. It acquired the J. H. Day Company in 1981, and the two firms merged in 1992 to form Littleford Day Inc. Littleford’s extensive catalog of road maintenance and construction equipment included portable oil burners, brewery equipment, concrete heaters, pipeline equipment, explosives storage , powder storage magazines, plate and sheet steel construction, “Spray Master” bituminous distributor, utility and supply tanks, “HanDeeBox” splicer box and lead melting furnace, “Tankar” steam heater, paving tools, other construction and road building equipment, pumps and “Kwik-Steam” generators.

Opening titles: LB Littleford, Littleford Bros., Inc. presents Bituminous Distributor (:08). “Spray Master” Model CLRC (:51) for black top road maintenance and construction. “Spray Master” Model CLRA (:56). “Spray Master” Model HVC (1:06). “Spray Master” Model HVA (1:14). Trail-O-Distributor (1:23). A “Spray Master” sprays a country road (1:41). Model M-3 apples a tack coat before stone is spread (2:02). Stone is spread across a road that was sprayed (2:32). Truck opens its back and dumps stone (3:14). Littleford Trail-O-Distributor shoots bituminous material on the aggregate from a supply tank (4:08). Model HVC “Spray King” starts shooting after the Trail-O-Distributor has emptied; machines go down the road (5:18). “Spray King” HVC comes back down the road followed by a grader (6:36). The road is smoothed down in both directions (9:02) by a steam roller. CLRC pumps material from a railroad tank car prior to shooting (10:48). Model CLRC “Spray Master” and HVC put a seat coat on a street (11:59). A part of the street has a seat coat on it (12:33). Model CLRC “Spray Master” and HVC put the seat coat on another section of the street (12:44). A truck is backed up with stone falling out of it onto the seat coat (13:28). Model CLRC “Spray Master” and HVC spray more seat coat down (14:00). Model HVC “Spray King” with an end folding spray bar is looked at by a man who turns on the spray bar and adjusts it (14:39). Model HVC “Spray King” with an end folding spray bar continues to spray the street (15:18). End credits (16:05).
