This 1949 color film about the value of having school safety patrol boys is by Visa Films Visual Study Aids. A group of boys plays football on a front lawn. Another comes out the front door with crutches, wearing a leg cast. A mother sits in a chair and crochets before looking at a photo of her son. Elementary school children play by a busy intersection. Legs are shown running, a child lies as though dead in the street, children on the sidewalk are shocked, and a 1940s ambulance picks up the body (1:06-3:50). Individual boys wearing white safety patrol shoulder belts with a silver badge hold AAA STOP paddles; one stands in front of a 1940s Buick Roadmaster (5:45-5:22). A mother walks her young daughter down the sidewalk. School children in 1940s clothing are shown (5:23-6:58). A woman wears a 1940s hat with feathers (7:18). The mother fixes the daughter’s hair bows and allows her to walk to school. A young boy from next door takes her hand and they walk together. The school safety patrol boy watches as they approach the street crossing, stands in the road with his sign, and the children cross (7:55-8:59). Multiple safety patrol boys act as crossing guards for children. 1940s cars and trucks drive and make turns (9:00-9:48). The Xenia, Ohio City Hall building is shown. The Police Sergeant gets into a 1940s Ford Woodie Station Wagon with a spare tire on the rear (9:50-11:15). A group of safety patrol boys stand in front of the Woodie (11:32). He demonstrates with them how to safely guide children across the street (12:04-12:40). The boys stand in a line and are inspected for the proper way to way the belt and badge. They individually raise their hands during role call. The boys walk to their designated positions at street intersections (13:12-14:42). The young boy and girl walk down the sidewalk swinging their held hands (15:13). Improper safety patrol behavior shown includes not paying attention, swatting at kids, and using paddles for ping-pong (15:32-15:56). An intersection that requires multiple safety patrol boys is shown using horizonal flags that say STOP (16:17-16:45). A young girl wearing saddle shoes safely crosses by herself (16:48-17:00). A young boy challenges a crossing guard. Motorist violators are reported to the Sergeant (17:17-17:55). A large group of smiling school children are panned as they surround the Sergeant (17:58-18:18). A 1940s school bus arrives and the safety patrol boy exits first. Bus safety patrol boys station themselves at individual busses as the children board. Multiple busses are shown driving down streets and country roads (18:20-20:10). Boys ride 1940s scooters on the sidewalk, pull metal wagons with children riders, and roller skate. Other elementary children play on see-saws, swim, play baseball, and football (20:27-21:13). A blowing flag is framed through an arch (22:36-23:03). A State Game Refuge illegal hunting sign is shown (23:22). A family with a dog picnics at a park (23:46). “Help us protect our child life” sign is shown (23:59).
