49124 BICYCLING WITH COMPLETE SAFETY 1940s BIKE RIDING FILM

This black & white educational film is about Bicycle Safety. This is from 1939.

Opening titles: Bicycling with Complete Safety (:07-:18). Aerial shot of a town. People on the move. Children playing. A traffic cop walks children. A police officer stands near children. A police officer speaks to the viewer about safety (:19-2:28).

A boy, named Bobby, rides a bike without holding the handlebars and gets hit by a car. The body of the Bobby lays under a car. The boy is in the hospital laying on a stretcher, injured. Bobby rides a bike the correct way this time, both hands on the wheel. He slams on his brakes when a car door opens. Another boy rides a bike and hits a curb falling over (2:29-4:16). Another boy cuts through some people and rides on the sidewalk, he is stooped by a police officer who tells him what he did was wrong. A police officer watches a boy come by on a bike. Four boys ride in circles in the street, this is considered bad. A boy runs out into the street and a car slams its brakes on. Another boy rides fast down a driveway and into traffic causing a car to swerve and slow, this is also bad. A boy rides by two women on his bike. A bike horn. Lights on a bike. A boy works on his bike as its upside down, others watch including a cop. A police officer helps work on and fix the bike (4:17-7:13). The police officer writes down something near a boy. Police officers show some boys how to ride safely. A boy rides and uses his signals. A boy, now grown, shows up to visit his parents with his wife and child. Close on the child’s face (7:14-8:50). End credits (8:51-9:02).
