48544 TRANS WORLD AIRLINES TWA 1950s AIR ADVENTURE TO EUROPE

TWA presents “Air Adventure to Europe,” a late-1950s color film that takes its viewer from a quiet suburban home in America as a young traveler receives her graduation gift from her parents: a trip to Paris. She boards the Lockheed Constellation TWA “Star of Minnesota” and takes off for a 47-day tour. She lands in Paris at mark 01:49 and we quickly see the Eiffel Tower (mark 02:11), the Arc de Triomphe (mark 02:30), and the Louvre Museum (mark 02:53) including the Mona Lisa (mark 03:17). Later we see a show at the Moulin Rouge (mark 04:11) and visit Notre Dame (mark 04:45) as the narrator reminds the viewer that the structure is not just some “historical monument” but a “living church.” The tour mingles with locals before taking a chartered coach to the French Riviera (mark 07:20). They visit Monte Carlo (09:13) and then move into Italy and Rome at mark 09:20, visiting Vatican City (mark 10:33), the ruins of the Forum (mark 10:49), and the Coliseum (mark 11:00), and later the Florence Baptistery (mark 12:20). The tour continues in Venice (mark 17:05) and a gondola trip. A train takes the tour into Switzerland and onto the Matterhorn (mar 20:52) for some snow-covered excitement. After attending some lectures the group moves on to Geneva before boarding another TWA plane for London (mark 26:35). The Houses of Parliament (mark 26:44), Piccadilly Circus, Tower Bridge, and the Tower of London (mark 27:00) where “history came to life” while speaking with a “Beefeater” before seeing Buckingham Palace and the famed changing of the guard. As the film draws to a close, we see the birthplace of William Shakespeare at Stratford-upon-Avon (mark 28:00) before returning to Paris for the return home.
