This bright and brief travelogue by filmmaker Paul Hoefler shows the capital city of New Mexico; Santa Fe. The city rests in the Sangre de Cristo foothills. The area is characterized by Pueblo-style architecture. The film was created by Paul L. Hoefler; a photographer and cinematographer best known for his wildlife and tribal footage. The film opens with a map noting the location of Santa Fe (:55). An aerial expanse of the city follows (1:11). The stunning New Mexico Museum of Art is the first site visited (1:15). This museum was established in 1917. What appears to be a red 1939 Chevrolet Furgon passes in front (1:17). La Fonda Hotel (1:23) is popular tourist lodging site (1:23). Puebloan architecture is captured against a snowy mountain range (1:28). A cross stands above dry ground (1:37). Another aerial shot of the city shows dark brown buildings amid spindly trees (1:44). The Palace of the Governors (1:48) was opened in 1610. A plaque follows dictating the history of the building (1:51). The city’s flag waves (2:03) followed by the Mexican national flag and the Texas state flag (2:07) and Confederate States of America (2:14) flag. The US flag also appears (2:16). Copies of the book ‘Ben-Hur’ appear written in the 1800’s by Lew Wallace. A young boy reads the book in a wooden chair (2:24). A stone engraving marks the end of the Santa Fe Trail (2:39). This was a 19th century trail through North America connecting Franklin, Missouri with Santa Fe, New Mexico. Desert lands follow (2:49). The silver domed Santa Fe Capital building (2:55) is pictured. The state seal is zoomed in on (3:26). The New Mexico state flag waves under the US flag (3:37). Pedestrians pass on the street near a local tavern (3:50). Modern homes are erected on the slanting hillside (3:59). A drill rig works hard at an oil field (4:07). Field workers shovel dirt from a narrow irrigation creek (4:13). The Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range is pictured (4:21) with cattle in the foreground. Sheep herds mingle in front of a hut (4:34). Yucca shrubs jut up from the ground (4:41). A native girl in traditional attire husks corn (4:50) from her knees. Another woman works with a rolling pin (4:59). Hot red chili peppers hang to dry (5:10). Mountains line the skyline (5:16). Puebloan homes are pictured under blue skies (5:20). This film was produced by Paul Hoefler (5:28).
