46744 MANITOBA FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE & CO-OPERATION CANADIAN FARMING CO-OPERATIVE

This color documentary called People with a Purpose, probably made in the early to mid-1950’s, was created for the Manitoba Federation of Agriculture & Co-operation, established in June, 1945. It was produced to promote their farmers co-operatives and to help establish additional ones. The film was written by Darwin Chase and the sound recordings were by Crawley Films of Ottawa, Canada. F.R. Crawley was a Canadian film producer and founded Crawley Films in 1939. He has been described as Canada’s answer to Sam Goldwyn. The film was distributed by the National Film Board of Canada, an agency of the Government of Canada, formed in 1939.

Men building a log house (1:54-2:01). Women weaving wool into thread (2:02-2:10). Men trashing grain using steam engines (2:11-2:20). Horse and wagon taking grain to the loading platform at the co-operative elevator (2:21-2:41). Horses are at work (2:49-3:04). Beautiful view of a wheat field (3:22-3:30). The Co-operative have developed elevators, stores, oil stations, credit unions, processing plants, dairies, poultry marketing, factories, livestock, and life insurance (18:28-18:59).
