40304a CHARLES LINDBERGH RETURNS TO USA ABOARD USS MEMPHIS & IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Made for the home market in the late 1920s and released by Kodak as part of their Kodascope film library, this silent newsreel shows the aftermath of Charles Lindbergh’s 1927 trans-Atlantic flight. At :17, the Lone Eagle is seen at Cherbourg, France, about to board the cruiser USS Memphis to sail home. At :45, exclusive pictures show Lindy at sea with the crew of the ship, learning how the big guns work and climbing aboard the ship’s seaplane. At 1:21, Lindy looks through binoculars while at 1:29 the dirigible USS Los Angeles flies overhead. At 1:37, a triumphant welcome in New York Harbor features blimps, airplanes and ships. At 1:55, USS Memphis is docked and Lindy meets up with his mother. At 2:19, Lindy is greeted by huge crowds in Washington, D.C. A parade is held in his honor (2:30). At 2:46, President Coolidge greets Lindy and presents him with the Distinguished Flying Cross.
