33402 1950s LOS ANGELES AND SANTA BARBARA HOME MOVIES

This 16mm Kodachrome home movie footage shows an arts festival at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Barnsdall House in Hollywood in the late 1950s or early 1960s. The Hollywood sign appears at the 00:03:31:04 mark. There is also footage of a visit to the Santa Barbara area starting at about 00:06:40:00, including the Mission, and an art show in Santa Barbara. Perhaps the most interesting material occurs around 00:11:37:00 , when the cameraman takes a ride down the Hollywood Freeway into and out of downtown Los Angeles — no skyscrapers present — and there’s almost no traffic whatsoever. The film ends with footage shot at the Griffith Observatory, where an Atlas missile or rocket is on temporary display.
