Made in 1945, WE SAID WE’D COME BACK shows the invasion of Guam and the actions and successes of the U.S. Navy to maintain the support of the American public. The film features Admiral Ernest J. King, the Chief of Naval Operations and the Admiral in Chief. It also ends with a brief appearance by James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy.
The film shows how the war in the Pacific was turning to the American side including footage of the retaking of Guam and warships such as the U.S.S. Washington and San Francisco engaged in battle. The film shows the range of naval vessels and airplanes including battleships, cruisers, submarines (including one launched at a shipyard in Wisconsin), baby aircraft carriers with Grumman Avengers, destroyer escorts (4:00), PT boats. Depicts the great lengths the Navy goes to to save and care for wounded sailors. Shows the Seabees constructing an airstrip at 7:00, five days after the D-day landing. 14 days later the airstrip is shown in full operation. Ends with an appeal by the Secretary of the Navy for the American public to buy War Bonds.
The film shows rockets fired from Avengers at 4:45. At 5:00, wounded sailors are shown being taken care of in hospital. At 5:15, Marine Corps corpsmen are seen. The film ends with an animated sequence likely made by the Walt Disney Co., showing the vastly superior numbers of ships and aircraft now available to the USA forces.
