Made for the home market in Germany and sold in department stores, this newsreel shows initial victories in the summer offensive of 1942 as part of Operation Barbarossa, with German forces advanced towards the River Don. The film shows the First Battle of Voronezh, and the push towards Moscow and Stalingrad on the Eastern Front. The film shows German aircraft and artillery in action, and shows panzers and artillery in a duel with Soviet tanks (:48) At 1:19, a German soldier shoots an MP 40 submachinegun. Soviet prisoners emerge at 1:24. At 1:41, a SdKfz 251/1 Ausf.A armored personnel carrier is shown. Footage of the Heer’s Günther Pape, a German general who was the recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves (1:46). At 2:07 some of the German horses, carrying supplies for the army, are visible. At 2:30, lines of panzer tanks ford a stream. At 2:40, lines of Stuka dive bombers fly missions over Soviet lines, including smashing a Don River bridge at 3:00. At 3:06, wreckage of Soviet vehicles dots the landcape near or in Voronezh. The film ends with a montage of tanks, vehicles and aircraft continuing the advance into Russia.
