Made for the home market in Germany during WWII, this short silent newsreel shows wartime activities “From Murmansk to Africa”. At the start of the film, bombs are loaded on Luftwaffe Stukas and bomber aircraft tasked with the mission of bombing Allied convoys headed for Murmansk. At 1:00 bombs fall onto the port of Murmansk. At 1:18 the Caucus Front line is shown with German artillery firing against Russian lines. At 2:00 German troops with inflatable assault boats prepare to cross a river while the artillery provides covering fire. The “fight against Soviet Bolshevism” as the subtitle at 2:57 states, proved to be the downfall of the Germans. At 3:04 a sniper is shot out of a tree while at 3:31 German troops have entered a town and have taken commissars prisoner. At 3:47 the film shifts to the Mediterranean where supply convoys sail for North Africa, protected by the Italian fleet. At 4:25 a large Dornier Do 18 sea plane is seen flying past. At 4:45 patrol craft or E-boats guard the coast. At 4:57, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel is shown getting out of his command car and conferring with his officers. At 5:23 the most famous Kubelwagen of WWII is shown — marked “OTTO” in big letters. This was the kübelwagen of famed pilot Hans-Joachim Marseille, which he had named “Otto”. Marseille, who singlehandedly accounted for 158 claimed victories, is shown meeting with Rommel at 5:47.
