32540b HD WWII GERMAN NEWSREEL ALLIED RAID ON DIEPPE, FRANCE OPERATION JUBILEE AUGUST 1942 (See 13194g )

Made for the home market during WWII, this silent German newsreel shows the aftermath of the Allied raid on Dieppe, also known as Operation Jubilee. The film begins with a graphic that shows the landing force before showing German shore defenses firing against Royal Navy ships. At 1:10 an anti-aircraft barrage goes up against Allied aircraft. At 1:50 German troops fight back and at 1:58 take casualties. The rest of the film is aftermath footage showing dead bodies, wrecked equipment including 28 tanks and landing craft. At 2:39 a Canadian soldier is shown on the beach. At 2:55 landing boats are inspected while prisoners, among them the wounded, are removed from the beach. The film ends with shots of the Atlantic Wall defenses and shows German aircraft and ships on guard on the English Channel.

The Dieppe Raid, also known as the Battle of Dieppe, Operation Rutter and, later, Operation Jubilee, was a Second World War Allied attack on the German-occupied port of Dieppe. The raid took place on the northern coast of France on 19 August 1942. The assault began at 5:00 a.m. and by 10:50 a.m. the Allied commanders were forced to call a retreat. Over 6,000 infantrymen, predominantly Canadian, were supported by a Canadian Armored regiment and a strong force of Royal Navy and smaller Royal Air Force landing contingents. It involved 5,000 Canadians, 1,000 British troops, and 50 United States Army Rangers.
