32104 WWII CATHEDRAL FILMS CHRISTIAN FAITH & REWARD FILM

In 1939, Episcopal Reverend James K. Friedrich moved to Hollywood to found Cathedral Films, Inc. Friedrich advocated film as a medium of Christian Education and ministry. In 1943 Cathedral Films became a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation, and it remained a leader in the production and distribution of religious educational films, filmstrips and recordings across denominations for the next 30-plus years, with many films receiving national and international recognition. This film WE TOO RECEIVE is one of the company’s earliest, as it debuted in 1944. In this WWII era movie a downed American pilot is rescued by a Christian convert in New Guinea. Due to a series of powerful co-incidences brought about by God’s intervention, and the power of prayer by the missing pilot’s family, the man is saved. The film ends with a rousing rendition by the natives of “Onward Christian Soldier.”

Cathedral Films was a great success but by the late 1970s, when rising costs began to affect the religious media industry’s production abilities, Cathedral Films’ Trustees and Directors proposed to turn itself and its assets over to The Episcopal Church, so that the Church could continue Cathedral’s film ministry and ongoing media outreach. That agreement was formalized in 1981. The Archives of the Episcopal Church became the official repository for Cathedral Films in 1999 (visit https://www.episcopalarchives.org/cathedral-films-inc to learn more).
