This silent German film contains rare footage of German aviators in World War I, including Hermann Goering who later became chief of the Luftwaffe under Adolph Hitler and Von Richthofen also known as the Red Baron. The action packed footage includes air to air combat, balloon attacks, and anti-aircraft activities. The Deutsche Luftstreitkräfte (“German Air Force”), known before October 1916 as Die Fliegertruppen des deutschen Kaiserreiches (“Imperial German Flying Corps”), or simply Die Fliegertruppen, was the air arm of the German Army (of which it remained an integral part) during World War I (1914–1918).
